Father of 9-year-old girl shot by child charged in her death
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 39-year-old man was charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of his 9-year-old daughter, who was fatally shot by another child in a north Philadelphia home, authorities said.
The girl’s brother and cousin, both minors, were inside the home with no adult supervision at the time of the shooting Wednesday, District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a statement.
Blake Davis was charged with involuntary manslaughter and multiple other charges. It was unclear Thursday evening whether Davis had hired an attorney.
Police called to the address just after 11 a.m. Wednesday reported finding the girl with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition and police say she was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The city’s police commissioner, Danielle Outlaw, told reporters at the scene that the shooting was reported by a 12-year-old who was also in the house, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Outlaw said two firearms were found in the home. The victim’s name has yet to be released.
