Fatal shooting, crash involving cab shuts down Interstate 55
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A fatal shooting involving two men inside a cab and subsequent crash early Wednesday morning shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near St. Louis.
Police were called to the scene in south St. Louis County around 3 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a crash, television station KTVI reported. Arriving officers found two men injured in a taxi that had been rear-ended on the interstate.
Investigators said the men in the cab had been shot. One man was declared dead at the scene, and the other man was taken to an area hospital. Police did not immediately release their names or give the medical condition of the injured man.
A truck driver who witnessed the crash told KTVI that the cab was stopped on the interstate when it was hit from behind by another vehicle. The truck driver said when he checked on the occupants of the cab, the driver told him he’d been shot and asked for help.
