Wichita man accused of killing man who had shot himself
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita man was being held Tuesday on a possible first-degree murder charge after he shot one of his roommates after the man had shot himself in the head, police said.
Charles Burnham, 28, was being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on $500,00 bond.
Officers who went to the home early Tuesday found a 27-year-old man dead.
Capt. Jason Stephens said officers learned the man was suicidal and had shot himself once in the head, KAKE-TV reported.
“Our suspect immediately thereafter retrieved the same gun and shot the victim two additional times,” Stephens said.
First-degree murder requires premeditation. Stephens said Burnham and the victim had a discussion that led to Burnham’s involvement in the shooting.
The two men and the victim’s brother lived in the home. The brother was asleep when the shooting occurred, Stephens said.
