Man gets 50 years for robbing business, co-worker
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Louisiana man convicted of robbing a store where he worked has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
State District Judge John D. Mosely Jr. on Thursday sentenced Christopher George Sanders, 33, of Shreveport, to 45 years in prison for armed robbery and five years for the use of a firearm in that robbery, state prosecutors said.
An employee at the Big Lots outlet, Sanders entered the store on Sept. 29, 2018, under the pretense that he was there to work a shift when he pulled a gun on a coworker, threatened to kill her, and forced her to open the safe, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office said. He stole about $4,000 and took the woman’s cell phone, authorities said.
The coworker identified Sanders in a photographic lineup. Sanders was later arrested to face the charges. After deliberating just 18 minutes, a 12-person jury found Sanders guilty Oct. 27.
