Lucas, of Hurricane, gets gamer honors

September 22, 2018 GMT

Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to senior Brooke Lucas of Hurricane High School.

The Hurricane Redskins girls soccer team is staying on track with their undefeated season; they picked up one win against Woodrow Wilson and a tie against George Washington last week. A senior and captain on the team this year, Lucas created the assist for the game-tying goal against George Washington. This brings the Redskins record to 8-0-2.

As an asset player for the Redskins, Lucas is very happy with how the season is going.

“We’re playing pretty goodthe whole team is playing well, focusing on possession with each other, and just not forcing the plays,” she said.

One of her main goals this year is to continue winning and make it to playoffs.

The Redskins’ coach,

Shelly Young, had nothing but positive things to say about Lucas.

“Brooke has a high level of experience in soccer, which makes her very versatile. She has played since she was a young child, and has continued to play travel ball,” Young said. “She currently plays midfield, but with her abilities we are able to move her to outside back, which is great.”

Lucas has been a starter at Hurricane since she transferred her sophomore year; she is a senior captain on the team and has been a great contributor to the team’s success. With the season starting off so positive, the Redskins have goals to continue their play into post-season.

“We have a very tough sectional and regional pool, there are some tough teams to get by, but each game is an improvement,” Young said. “The girls are very dedicated; mistakes are made in an 80-minute game, but are always working hard and trying to do the right thing. They are great girls to coach.”

We wish the girls soccer team good luck this week, as they take on Riverside and Spring Valley.

Lucas currently carries a 3.9 GPA and is the daughter of Wendy and Sean Lucas. Her father is noted as one of her biggest motivators and supporters in soccer, and has always pushed her to be her best. She is also in a variety of clubs at school including, LINK, Key Club, FCA, and International Club. She has made plans for college next year, where she will attend the University of Charleston and play on the women’s soccer team. Her major will be education.
