Somerset couple pleads guilty in 10-month-old’s death
A Somerset Borough couple face 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in the 2017 death of a 10-month-old girl.
According to court records, Michael Edward Wingard, 32, and Angalina Miller, 29, both of David Lane, Somerset, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony counts of aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter. Originally, the couple was charged with homicide and conspiracy to commit homicide.
On April 10, 2017, Miller’s daughter Arianna was admitted to Somerset Hospital with traumatic injuries. According to court documents, the couple told hospital staff that she had been ill for two days.
After being diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, the child was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where the diagnosis was confirmed, according to a probable-cause affidavit. She died four days later.
Medical personnel indicated that the baby’s injuries were inflicted about 12 to 24 hours prior to the exam and were the result of intentional force.
Miller received custody of the baby from the baby’s father on April 5, according to police.
President Judge D. Gregory Geary ordered a presentence investigation.
