Bulldogs, Longhorns top standings to start second round

The next four weeks are crucial as local volleyball teams attempt to make a push for a postseason spot. Three teams ended the first round in playoff position and will look to stand pat as the final leg of the season takes place.
Alexander (34-2) tore through District 29-6A in the opening round with a perfect 7-0 record after beating previous league-unbeaten United on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs took charge of the district, while United fell to second place at 6-1. Del Rio is holding on to third place with a 5-2 record and San Antonio Southwest is in fourth at 4-3. United South is a game behind at 3-4 and LBJ sits two games back with a 2-5 record.
Alexander hits the road to open the second round to face off with Eagle Pass, a former powerhouse which has fallen off the radar over the last few years. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
“Going into the second round will be tougher,” Alexander head coach Ari Bermea said. “Everyone is more experienced and more competitive. Road games are never easy, so we need stay the course and continue to push forward.”
