Warriors sweep Gadsden City, Ramsay at Rickwood Field

BIRMINGHAM - Jy Lockridge belted the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning, capping the Cherokee County Warriors’ 6-5 baseball victory over Gadsden City at legendary Rickwood Field in Birmingham on Saturday.

The Warriors also blanked Ramsay 6-0 to improve to 8-0 on the season.

In the win over Gadsden City, Lockridge finished the game going 3-for-5 with the game-winning hit which capped a three-run eighth. Colin Edwards was also 3-for-5 with a triple. Jaren Lockridge was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk.Colin Brewer had a hit and a pair of walks. Josh Decker, Caleb Ransum, Chris Ray, Cade Gossett and Ethan Johnson each had a hit for the Warriors.

Johnson earned the win after working 2/3 of an inning. He didn’t surrender a hit or a walk.

Noah Ledbetter started the game and worked five innings. He gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts.


In the win over Ramsay, Johnson and Decker combined for a one-hitter, with Johnson again earning the win. He tossed three innings of no-hit ball with five strikeouts. Decker delivered four innings, giving up the lone Ramsay hit with seven strikeouts.

Jy Lockridge and Ransum led the Warriors at the plate, with both going 2-for-4 with a double. Johnson also had a pair of hits. Brewer had a hit and two walks. Edwards, Jaren Lockridge and Gossett each had a hit and a walk. Decker also finished with a hit.

Cherokee County hosts Glencoe on Tuesday.
