Police: 2 juveniles charged in shooting at school tournament
SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say that two juveniles have been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded two other boys during a high school basketball game in Salisbury.
The Charlotte Observer reports that the juveniles were arrested on Friday.
Salisbury Police said the two juveniles faces two counts of attempted murder, “with more criminal charges forthcoming.”
The shooting occurred Wednesday at Catawba College. Police said a fight had broken out in the lobby outside the gym during halftime. The basketball event had featured schools from Rowan County.
WBTV reported that a 13-year-old male was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after he was shot in one of his legs. Police said he was in stable but good condition.
A 14-year-old was shot in the forearm and treated at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and released, WBTV reported.
The juveniles who were arrested were not identified. They were taken to Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center. It’s unclear if they’ve hired attorneys who can speak on their behalf.
