March 28, 2017 GMT

University of Wisconsin sophomore forward Ethan Happ was named an Associated Press Third-Team All-American on Tuesday.

Happ becomes the sixth UW player to be named to the AP’s All-America team since the award was first given out in 1948.

“It is definitely an honor to receive such a prestigious award,” Happ said in a statement. “No individual award comes without the help of others though. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and all the support I’ve gotten that has helped me get to this point.”

Happ was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by the AP and was a firs-team All-Big Ten selection. He averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 58 percent from the field.

Happ joins former teammate Frank Kaminsky, who was a first-team All-American in 2015. Alando Tucker also received first-team honors in 2007 while Jordan Taylor (2011) and Devin Harris (2004) were named to the second team. Don Rehfeldt was a third-team All-American in 1950.
