It was a tough day for area field hockey teams, as Littleton, Tyngsboro and Wilmington were all bounced in state tournament play.

Field hockey

All three dropped first-round games and none was able to score.

Division 2 Central

First round

Leicester 1

Littleton 0

Visiting Leicester showed it was not the usual 12th-seeded team, both with its record (13-2-4) and talent.

No. 5 Littleton ends with a fine record of 13-3-3.

It was a frustrating game for the Tigers, who put 21 shots on Colleen Lamprey only to see Lamprey stop all of them. Leicester scored the lone goal eight minutes into the second half.

Sutton 2

Tyngsboro 0

The Tigers were unable to pull off a road upset to a strong Sutton squad.

No. 3 Sutton advances with a 12-2-4 record. No. 14 Tyngsboro (9-10) was unable to get a shot past Arianna Perrin, who posted her 11th shutout of the season.

It was still a terrific season for Tyngsboro, which was coming off a 5-8-3 campaign in which the Tigers were not able to qualify for the state tournament.

Division 2 North

First round

Gloucester 4

Wilmington 0

Second-seeded Gloucester scored twice in less than two minutes in the first half to take control.

No. 15 Wilmington (9-9-1) received terrific play in goal from Johanna Robinson.

Gloucester (15-1-3) advances to the second round.
