Devils Take 3rd Place at Nationals

The Leominster eighth-grade American Youth Football team defeated Tyler Canes (Texas), 46-6, to place third in the AYF National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, this week.

The Leominster offense was led by three touchdowns from Anthony Oquendo, two scores from Bradley Albert and a Caeden Constant TD, with one of Oquendo’s scores coming on a pass from Liam Connor. Leominster dominated on defense, only allowing six points, led by the efforts of Albert, Joey Pallotta, Nico Martinez, Colin LeBlanc, Chris Garcia and Miguel Cabrera. All three phases of the game played solid.

Leominster had previously fallen, 51-30, to the Charm City Bucs of Maryland in the national semifinals.

The success is no surprise for this hard-working group, which finished with a 54-7 record over the past five years of American Youth Football. Leominster lost only two games in Central Mass. during that incredible run.

Last year, these Blue Devils won the New England region and finished fourth at the national championships in the seventh-grade division.
