Police ID woman who jumped from Stamford overpass
STAMFORD — State Police on Monday identified the woman who died last week after jumping from a city overpass onto Interstate 95.
Authorities said Abbey Meany, 27, of Belltown Road, Stamford, jumped from the East Main Street overpass near exit 9, fell on the left northbound lane and was struck by at least one vehicle Thursday morning.
Police said this remains an active investigation. The medical examiner has yet to determine the cause and manner of death.
It’s not clear if Meany died before or after she was struck on the highway or how many vehicles hit her. Police have declined to provide details.
The incident, reported about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, led to the closure of two northbound lanes for about two hours, causing traffic delays for miles.
