Texas Senate gushes over The Admiral, David Robinson

March 28, 2017 GMT

AUSTIN — Former Spurs center David Robinson caused a stir when he stopped by the Texas Senate Thursday, as lawmakers hurried to shake his hand, pose for photos and generally gush.

“I’d like to give an official welcome to one of the greatest players in the NBA,” said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who presides over the Senate and had a photo with The Admiral.

Patrick called Robinson “an incredible human being” and a leader in school reform and charter schools.

“Public charters!” interjected Sen. Borris Miles, D-Houston, who escorted Robinson to the chamber. Patrick is championing proposals that would allow public support for private schools.

Robinson — who is a leader with IDEA Public Schools, a charter school group — was at the Texas Capitol to promote legislation that would help public charter schools by providing funding for facilities.
