Robert B. White

Robert B. Witte, 83, of West Point, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at the West Point Care Center.

He was born May 6, 1933 in Fort Madison, the son of Louis J. and Lela M. (Smalley) Witte. On Feb. 8, 1953, he married Dolores J. Poland at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores, of West Point; four children, Michael R. Witte of Fort Madison, Gregory A. (Nancy) Witte of Mount Pleasant, Rebecca M. (Lloyd) Fraise of West Point and Diana L. (Bill) Hawkins of Hebron, Neb.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one twin sister, Roberta (Bill) Sandbothe of Fort Madison; and one brother, Frank Witte of Aurora, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Harold Witte; and one sister, Marie Ertz.

Robert was a member of Joy Baptist Church in Fort Madison. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.


He worked as a carpenter and enjoyed building cabinets. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Friends may call and meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at Joy Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Joy Baptist Church in Fort Madison, with Reverend Earl Beal officiating.

Burial will be in the Claypoole Cemetery near Wever.
