Mary Jane Cowden Bartlett, 58, of Madison died Monday, August 27, 2018, at her home. She was born Nov. 14, 1959, in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Walter William Cowden and Rona May Jones Cowden Lawry. She was raised in and around Mt. Vernon, Illinois and later lived in Fort Meyers, Florida. She had worked for Vegas Experience in Florida as a floor slot manager. She moved to Madison to be near her family and had worked as a waitress for the Honey Jug Restaurant. She had attended Bennington United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to the boat, playing bingo and socializing. She is survived by two daughters, Amanda Bartlett of Madison and Christy Hollenbach of Bushnell, Illinois; two sons, Joshua Bartlett of Roanoke, Virginia, and Dewayne Bartlett of Madison; four brothers, Gene “Archie” Jones, Bill Cowden and Mike Cowden, all of Brunswick, Georgia, and David Cowden of Hayes, Virginia; two sisters, Karen Harding and Robin Shelton, both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Lee Bartlett, whom she married Dec. 31, 1976, and who died July 23, 2015; her father; and one sister, Beverly Patterson. There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bennington United Methodist Church in Bennington, Indiana. Norris Lauderbaugh, 82, of Daleville, Indiana, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at his home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.
Franklin Skirvin Sr.
Franklin D. Skirvin Sr., 79, of Madison died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at his home. He was born Jan. 18, 1939, in Gallatin County, Kentucky, the son of Deward B. Sr. and Mary Ellen McKinney Skirvin. He was raised in Gallatin County and received his early education there. He was inducted in the U.S. Army on the first of what would become two tours of duty. He earned his GED while serving in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged April 23, 1962. He immediately re-enlisted the next day rising to the rank of Specialist 4, earning the Good Conduct Medal and a Marksmanship Medal for his ability in handling an M-14 Rifle. He was honorably discharged April 19, 1965 in Fort Hamilton, New York. He had worked early in life at an Exxon gas station in Carrollton, Kentucky, as an attendant. He retired from Elf Atochem North America Inc. as a chemical operator after 31 years. He moved to Madison in 1977. He was a former longtime member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, being on his computer and playing scratch-off tickets. He is survived by his wife, Donna Lee Davis Skirvin of Madison, whom he married Dec. 20, 1968; two daughters, Lisa Smith of Sanders, Kentucky, and Paula Rice of Carrollton; two sons, Franklin D. Skirvin Jr. of Madison and Jonathon Skirvin of Madison; two sisters, Avanelle Randall of Hanover, Indiana, and Peggy Bentley of Portsmouth, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lida Bea Charles and Margaret Skirvin; and four brothers, John W., Orville Jesse, Deward Jr. and Leslie Thomas Skirvin. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, Kentucky. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon until the service. A final salute will be conducted at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the graveside. Donnetta June Maddox Trejo, 53, of Madison died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born Nov. 16, 1964, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital, the daughter of Don Maddox and Anna Richards Maddox. She was a 1983 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at several health care facilities including The Waters of Clifty Falls, Hickory Creek at Madison, King’s Daughters’ Health and Thornton Terrace Health Campus, until she became disabled. She enjoyed playing bingo and caring for her cats and was a member of the Jefferson Post No. 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one son, Dante Farone of Madison; her father and stepmother, Don and Geraldine Maddox of Madison; two brothers, Donnie Maddox Jr. and Charlie Maddox, both of Madison; two stepbrothers, Elmer Abbott of Madison and Ronald Abbott of New Washington, Indiana; one niece; and several other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow at a later date in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 5 p.m. until the service. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Donnetta Maddox Trejo Remembrance Fund.
