Additional early closings announced in Polk County ahead of threatening winter weather
With the chance for winter weather on the way, local officials are keeping a close eye on the forecast and a few have made a decision to close early before frozen conditions become too difficult for travel.
Among those who will be closing early is Georgia Northwestern Technical College, who announced all campuses across the region including Polk County’s campus in Rockmart will close at noon to ensure students and staff make it home safely.
The City of Aragon also decided this morning they will close early. Mayor Garry Baldwin announced around 9:15 a.m. that the city will close its doors at 3 p.m. ahead of the start of winter weather.
The cities of Cedartown and Rockmart and Polk County’s administration have made no decision yet.
Polk School District officials announced earlier this morning that students would be sent home starting at 11:30 for elementary grades, followed by the middle schools at 11:45 and the high schools at noon.
