Want to be a weed warrior?

April 29, 2017 GMT

Quarry Hill Nature Center is looking for weed warriors.

As part of a Conservation Partners Legacy grant program, the center is holding an introduction session to the Weed Warrior program from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the center, 701 Silver Creek Road NE, to discuss identifying invasive species and how to fight them.

In Quarry Hill Park, species like garlic mustard and buckthorn are threatening to choke out native plants and wildflowers, which could affect the animal diversity.

Volunteers being sought include adults, families and students with a passion for the environment and conservation.

The program is part of a three-year $111,905 grant that is funding the Quarry Hill Silver Creek Urban Corridor Project, which is seeking to restore stream banks within the city limits to form green corridors extending from the rural areas of Olmsted County to the Zumbro River.
