Incorrect Deductions Found In County Audit

WILKES-BARRE — A recent audit conducted by the Luzerne County Controller’s Office revealed that incorrect amounts were deducted from the paychecks of some county employees for health insurance coverage, according to David Parsnik, county director of administrative services. Those deductions, which affected 24 employees, were too much in some cases and not enough in other cases, Parsnik said. Overall, the county is owed more than $2,700, he said. Employees who had too much money deducted from their paychecks will be given refunds, while employees who had too little deducted will be offered the option of a payment plan to pay back the difference, Parsnik said. The county instituted a verification procedure for employees during open health care enrollment last year, and will implement further verification measures for the next open enrollment, he said. —ERIC MARK
