2 officers shoot, kill Wyoming man armed with edged weapon
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Two police officers shot and killed a man who reportedly charged at them with a “large edged weapon,” police in Gillette said Sunday.
Officers responded at 7 a.m. to a report that the suspect had made threats and refused to leave a residence, the Gillette News Record reported.
When officers arrived, the man refused orders to drop his weapon.
Officers used two “less lethal” options to try and disarm the man, and he went further inside the residence, according to a police statement. Police did not say what less lethal options were tried.
As the officers continued to try to disarm the man, they said he charged and swung the weapon at him.
The officers shot the man. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.
One officer suffered minor injuries, police said.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
