STERLING – Tickets are on sale for the Woodlawn Arts Academy and Dixon Public Schools’ musical production of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Jr.” starring Madison and Reagan Middle School fourth- through eighth-graders.

Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Dixon High School Wiltz Auditorium, 300 Lincoln Statue Drive. Tickets cost $6 at Reagan Middle School, 620 Division St. in Dixon and at Woodlawn Arts Academy, 3807 Woodlawn Road in Sterling, and at the door.

Open mic night at Rosbrook

DIXON – Second Saturdays open mic night runs from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at Rosbrook Studio, 107 S. Peoria Ave.

Solo and duet acts will play for 15 minutes, and full bands will play for 30. Doors open at 6′

Admission is a suggested $3 donation. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Mama Cimino’s.

Before Abe was president

STERLING – “Lincoln: Years before the Presidency – The Influence of Family, Friends and Foes” will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lincoln Learning Center, 611 E. Third St., at the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society meeting.

Dennis Maher, a teacher and historian from Sycamore, will speak on Abraham Lincoln’s life before his presidency and the Civil War. Maher also is a senior vice commander in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Artists’ reception at TNPS

DIXON – The 15th Regional Survey of Art, which showcases area artists and trends in the Sauk Valley, is on exhibit at The Next Picture Show, 113 W. First St.

More than 90 original works – including acrylic, pencil, scanography, alcohol ink, mixed media, digital photography, pastel, oil, and watercolor – by 34 artists are on display in the gallery’s most popular annual exhibit, which ends Feb. 23.

A reception celebrating the artists begins at 6 p.m. Friday, with music by Chuck and Bev Kearns of Oregon.

DJ D Jones plays Friday and Wild Daisy Saturday, both from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Whiskey Barrel Saloon at 305 W. Second St. in Rock Falls, while Threshold takes the stage Saturday at The Cooler, up the block at 311 W. Second St.
