TV’s top couples still stir a sense of romance

February 8, 2018 GMT

Since many people will be celebrating Valentine’s Day this weekend, I thought I would get in the spirit and share my five all-time favorite TV couples and their most romantic moments.

5) John and Marlena, ‘Days of Our Lives’

In the early 90s, “Days” reunited ’80s super couple Roman and Marlena. But no one cared because of the incredible chemistry between Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John).

Nearly 27 years later, that chemistry is as strong as ever. Their most romantic moment is one of my favorite “Days” moments of all time as Roman (who Hogestyn was playing then) sees that Marlena is alive as she walks out of the fog on the pier.

4) Seth and Summer, “The O.C.”

Seth (Adam Brody) and Summer (Rachel Bilson) were a complete mismatch. He was a socially awkward comic book geek and she was Miss Popularity. But when Summer realized just how much Seth cared about her, she fell for him too. Their most romantic moment came in

season two when they recreated the iconic upside down Spider-Man in the rain kiss from the first “Spider-Man” movie.

3) Alex and Ellen, “Family Ties”

Ellen (Tracy Pollan) was pretty much everything Alex disliked — a liberal dance major who loved poetry and art. But the instant chemistry between Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan sold the coupling. Their most romantic moment is their most memorable one as they shared their first kiss to the strains of the then unknown Billy Vera and the Beaters smash “At This Moment.” The cool thing about this couple is that they truly did live happily ever after as Fox and Pollan are still going strong after nearly 30 years of marriage.

2) Zack and Kelly, ‘Saved By the Bell’

Zack (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) was the schemer who would do anything to win the heart of Kelly (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen), the head cheerleader. But underneath all those crazy schemes, Zack truly did care about Kelly and, eventually, after four seasons, a spinoff and two TV-movies, the couple found their way to the altar. Their most romantic moment came in the first episode of season two when Kelly turns down Zack’s invite to the prom because her father has lost his job and she can’t afford a dress. Zack surprises Kelly with a picnic prom outside of the school.

1) Ross and Rachel, “Friends”

It’s hard to believe that Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) actually spent more of the show apart than they did as a couple since they had such an impact on the series and television in general.

Ross and Rachel were a truly unlikely couple, but Schwimmer and Aniston’s chemistry sold every second of it. Their most romantic moment came in the second season when Rachel walks across the room to give Ross a kiss after watching the prom video that revealed the sweet thing he did for her in high school.

Whether you celebrate this weekend or on the actual day, I wish all of you a Valentine’s Day filled with lots of love and laughter.
