Inmate serving life for murder charged with killing cellmate
SMYRNA, Del. (AP) — A Delaware prison inmate serving a life sentence for murder has charged with killing a convicted child rapist with whom he was sharing a cell.
Delaware State Police said John Cameron, 55, was arrested Wednesday at the state’s maximum-security prison on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder.
Cameron is charged with killing Philip Langell, 69, on Monday morning at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.
Police said Langell sustained injuries consistent with being hit repeatedly with a closed fist and was also stabbed. An autopsy indicated that he died from injuries to his head and neck and from asphyxiation.
Cameron is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder after pleading guilty to fatally stabbing a Claymont gas station clerk during an attempted robbery in 2007.
Langell was serving a 20-year sentence for first-degree rape of a child under 12.
