Richard “Dick” Lee Klassen, 75, of Mason City, Illinois, passed away at his home Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, Illinois, with a 1 p.m. service immediately following. Brian Durbin will officiate. Burial will follow at Mason City Cemetery in Mason City, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Pets Without Parents or the Mason City Community Chapel.

Richard was born June 7, 1943, in Boone County, to Earl and Nina (Watts) Klassen. He married Genevieve “Sue” Darling on June 24, 1963, in Albion.

He was a member of the Mason City Community Chapel. Richard was also a past member of the Mason City Soil and Water Association, Illinois Groundwater Professionals, Rural Water Authority, Illinois Fruit and Vegetable Association, and the Indiana Groundwater Association. He also held an Indiana Pump Contractor License. He retired after 40-plus years from Grosch Irrigation as branch manager in Illinois. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid Cardinals fan. His biggest claim to fame was that he got to sleep with his secretary every night.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sue (Darling) Klassen; children, Richard “Rick” (Tracye) Klassen of Springfield, Illinois, Ronald “Ronnie” (Shari) Klassen of Mason City, and Sue Ann (Rusty) Bubert of Mason City; grandchildren, Amber Oller, Tanner Klassen, Kellie Klassen, Kortnie (Joey) Cooper, Kaytie Klassen, Zachary (Stephanie) Bubert, Amanda Attebery, Bradlee Bubert, and Genevieve “Genna” Bubert; great-grandchildren, Rhyanna Jibbens, Noah Veech, Keiley Jibbens, Carter Cooper, Ryker Cooper, Calvin Attebery, and Delaney Attebery; and one great-great grandchild, Carter Wilham. He is also survived by his siblings, Don (Mae) Klassen, Bernie McIntosh, Sharon (Jerome) Beenders; and a sister in law, Lois Klassen.

Richard was preceded in death by his, parents Earl and Nina; one brother, Earl Klassen; and one sister, Ramona Livingston.
