Man killed in Christmas Eve drive-by shooting in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man was killed early Sunday in a drive-by shooting on the city’s East Side, Cleveland police said.

The shooting happened about 1 a.m. on the 600 block of East 115th Street, a few blocks south of St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood, department spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said. Two men in their 20s were walking along the street when shots rang out from a vehicle driving past them.

One of the men was struck in the back by a bullet, Ciaccia said. He was taken by paramedics to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead.

The man did not have an ID on him when he died, Ciaccia said. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity once it is determined and his family is notified.

The second man was not injured, as he found a parked car and used it for cover. Several other vehicles on the street, as well as a home, were hit by bullets, Ciaccia said.

Cleveland police homicide detectives continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information on the fatal shooting should contact investigators at 216-623-5464.
