Discoverer tennis sweeps Tigers
Columbus High tennis bounced back from a difficult tournament at Omaha Westside this past weekend to sweep Hastings 9-0 in a dual on Tuesday.
The Discovers won all but one match by at least four games.
“I thought mentally, the girls were pretty tough today as we struggled at times with our shot-making but fought through it,” said head coach Dave Licari.
No. 1 doubles team Aspen Luebbe and Emily Miksch won 8-2 over Hasting’s Anna Cafferty and Allie Bauer.
No. 2 doubles Brooke Benck and Addi Duranski eked out a close 9-7 victory over Emma Markel and Bailey Kopisch.
No. 3 doubles Lauren Benck and Melanie Jones swept Sarah Splinek and Ashlee McVicker 8-0.
“Overall we played better in singles than doubles, a lot of unforced errors in our doubles matches,” Licari said.
No. 1 Lauren Benck defeated Cafferty 8-4, No. 2 Luebbe won 8-3 over Kopisch, No. 3 Miksch beat Bauer 8-3, No. 4 Jones outscored Markel 8-4, Brooke Benck defeated McVicker 8-2 and Duranski pulled out the 8-2 victory over Spilnek.
The victory brings Columbus to 4-0 in dual on the season.
“It’s nice to know that we are 4-0 in dual matches, but we still have a lot of things that we can and will get better at,” Licari said.
Columbus High competed against Kearney on Wednesday and will face off against Lincoln North Star on Monday.
