Girls’ basketball: Springs, Lake still lead 24-6A pack
Clear Brook enhanced its road to the playoff with a 55-47 District 24-6A girls’ basketball win over rival Friendswood Friday night in the Wolverine gym.
Celeste Clement scored 21 points and Nakayla Bell added 17 to lead the Clear Brook attack. The win for Brook moved the Lady Wolverines into a tie for third place.
The Lady Wolverines led 12-9 after one quarter before widening the gap to 32-26 by halftime. Friendswood trimmed the gap to 40-36 entering the fourth quarter.
Friendswood managed to cut the lead to 46-45 late in the final period but Brook pulled away for the eight point triumph.
In other District 24-6A, Clear Springs (18-7) improved to 5-0 in league play with a convincing 70-26 win over Dickinson while Clear Lake (22-4) remained right on the Lady Chargers’ heels with a 50-32 victory over Clear Falls. Jessica Epting led the Lady Knights with 14 points.
In the remaining 24-6A matchup, Clear Creek picked up a big 45-39 victory over Alvin (18-6) to move into contention for a playoff berth.
