WILMORE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say the deaths of two men found floating in a reservoir near a dam in western Pennsylvania earlier this month were due to a cardiac event and a drowning.

The Cambria County coroner said Tuesday the two Mineral Point-area men were fishing from a bass boat on June 9 at the Wilmore Dam in Summerhill Township.

Coroner Jeffrey Lees said 78-year-old Francis Frear had a cardiac event and apparently fell into the water. He said 68-year-old Dennis Livingston jumped in to try to rescue his longtime friend but drowned.

Lees ruled Frear’s death natural and Livingston’s death accidental. He said there were three unused life vests in the boat and stressed the importance of wearing them even in warm weather, especially for children and the elderly.

The 195-acre Wilmore Reservoir owned by the Cambria-Somerset Authority covers parts of Munster, Portage and Summerhill Townships.
