An Aiken man was charged Monday in connection to a shooting incident that occurred at an Aldrich Street apartment last July.

Deandre Tyree Gaiters, 22, of the 400 block of Morgan Street, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling and possession of a firearm during a violent crime, according to jail reports.

Aiken Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 600 block of Aldrich Street in reference to a disturbance, according to the report.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the 19-year-old victim who claimed the suspect came to his apartment door and asked for a cigarette, the release states.

The victim said he told the suspect to “hold up” and when he went to close the door, the suspect stuck his foot inside the door frame to keep the door open, according to the report.

During the struggle to close the door, the victim said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired one round into the house before fleeing the scene, the report states.

Investigators also spoke with a woman and her young child who also were in the house when the incident occurred, police reported.

A .40 caliber bullet casing was recovered from the scene and taken into evidence, according to the report.

Following an investigation, police showed the victim and another witness a photo lineup of suspects and they each separately picked out Gaiters, the report states.

Gaiters was arrested Monday and taken to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, where he is still being held Tuesday afternoon.
