PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) — Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia has hired the first female athletic director in its history.

Alderson Broaddus President Dr. Tim Barry announced Carrie Bodkins’ hiring Thursday.

Bodkins has been acting athletic director at the NCAA Division II private school since January following the leave of absence of former athletic director Dennis Creehan. She was named an associate athletic director in 2015 and before that served as the school’s women’s volleyball coach for 11 years.

Alderson Broaddus competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Bodkins is chair of the league’s Athletic Administration Council. A 1999 graduate of Alderson Broaddus who competed in both volleyball and basketball, Bodkins was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2018.
