Spearfish parking lot project still on track for start of school
SPEARFISH — A new parking lot is on track to open by the first day of school in Spearfish.
With the beginning of the school year quickly approaching for the Spearfish School District, Superintendent Kirk Easton addressed the school board at the monthly meeting about the parking lot extension being constructed at the high school.
“They’re putting some finishing grading on it,” Easton said during the meeting. “We’re hoping by the end of the week the asphalt is down.”
Easton explained that the project is a little bit behind schedule, and some of the aesthetic features such as a light pole and plants would need to be added during the school year; however he’s confident that the new student lot will be ready to use by the start of school.
“It’ll be useable, kids will be able to park there,” he said in a phone interview on Tuesday.
The parking lot, being constructed by Ainsworth-Benning Construction, Inc., is part of a number of renovation projects being made throughout the school district this summer, which the school board approved in June as part of a $442,903 bid. The lot is being built west of the tennis courts and will add around 100 parking spaces for students.
