Former Foreign Minister of Nepal Dead
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) _ Former Foreign Minister Maj. Gen. Padma Bahadur Khatri died Friday morning after a long illness. He was 69.
Khatri, who served as the kingdom’s foreign secretary, ambassador to the United States, and the permanent residential representative to the United Nations, underwent surgery in Washington D.C. last September.
He began his career in the army, where he was promoted to the rank of major general, and his appointment as foreign minister in 1982 by King Birendra topped a diplomatic career spanning more than 20 years.
General Khatri was also member of the Nepalese National Assembly. He resigned from the Cabinet last March for reasons of health.
