Fire damage cancels classes at university building
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A fire has damaged a university building in Louisiana and canceled classes for at least a day.
Southern University and A&M College says on its social media pages that classes won’t take place Monday in the nursing school building in Baton Rouge. A fire erupted on the second floor early Sunday morning. No one was inside and no injuries were reported.
News outlets report the sprinkler system extinguished the fire before crews arrived. The school says crews are still assessing the building for damages.
The Advocate reports a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman says an electrical malfunction likely caused the fire. The spokesman also says most of the damage was caused by the sprinkler water.
