Police: Lowell Man Assaulted Pregnant Woman
LOWELL -- A Lowell man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman who is 6-months pregnant during a fight in the city’s Acre neighborhood on Saturday, authorities say.
Jesse Edwards, 29, was involved in a fight with the pregnant woman’s father, when the woman intervened and was pushed to the ground by Edwards, Lowell police Capt. James Hodgdon said.
The pregnant woman was not injured, Hodgdon added.
The incident occurred outside 32 Brooks St. Edwards was taken into custody by police at the scene of the alleged crime about 5:50 p.m., shortly after the incident unfolded.
Another woman claimed Edwards “pistol whipped” her during the altercation, though no firearm was recovered by police, Hodgdon said.
Police charged Edwards with assault and battery on a pregnant woman, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (firearm), and assault and battery. He will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.
