Metro-North announces Thanksgiving holiday schedule
Metro-North Railroad will run on its Thanksgiving holiday service schedule starting Wednesday and running through Sunday.
On Wednesday, early getaway trains start leaving Grand Central Terminal around 1 p.m. The early trains might lead to reduced ridership on the evening trains, which may results in possibly combined trains or cancellations.
On Thanksgiving, the rail service will operate on a Saturday schedule with additional inbound trains for those customers headed into New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. There will be additional outbound service to get riders home after the parade.
Anyone leaving New York after the parade must have a ticket before they board the train at Grand Central Terminal or Harlem-125th Street station.
On Black Friday, Metro-North trains will run on a Saturday schedule, with additional morning and night outbound trains from Grand Central Terminals.
On Saturday and Sunday, trains will run on regular weekend schedules with additional “shoppers’ specials” trains.
Additional information on train travel can be found at mta.info/mnr/html/planning/schedules/schedules.htm.
Metro-North urges its customers to buy tickets in advance since Thanksgiving is among the busiest travel days of the year. Off-peak fares will be in effect for the entire four-day holiday period. Free parking will be available at many stations.
“All of us at Metro-North wish you and your families a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday,” the train service said.
