PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Police are investigating how a car rolled off a pier into the waters of Portland Harbor.

Officials say three people were inside the car when it rolled toward the edge of Widgery Wharf around 2 a.m. Sunday, but they were able to get out before it plunged into the water.

Police say driver inattention could be to blame.

The car was submerged after going in, but was towed out at low tide later Sunday morning.
