Watertown police officers had an unusual call last week.

Officers were called at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of North Fourth Street for a crash involving a farm tractor. A Watertown detective was driving a squad car on North Fourth Street when he discovered a farm tractor weaving all over the roadway. The tractor struck a parked car in the 700 block of North Fourth Street and continued traveling northbound. The detective could see a man and a woman in the tractor’s cab. The officer turned on the emergency lights and siren in his squad, and was nearly struck by the tractor. The tractor continued on and struck a second parked vehicle in the 800 block of North Fourth Street, and after striking this car the tractor drove off the roadway and struck a house. As the vehicle left the roadway, a woman in the cab of the tractor was ejected and landed in the roadway.

Through an investigation and the detective, who witnessed the crash, both the man and woman were arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, along with several other traffic violations. The 39-year-old man and the 40-year-old woman reside outside the city of Watertown. The woman was treated and transported by the Watertown Fire Department. The man was arrested and later transported to the Dodge County Jail.
