Close not good enough for Louisiana Tech

September 25, 2017

Saturday’s last second loss to South Carolina was a spot the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have been in before.

In fact, under Skip Holtz, the Bulldogs have had multiple close losses to power five teams.

Saturday, Louisiana Tech controlled the pace against the SEC’s Gamecocks before letting a fourth quarter lead slip away. Parker White sealed the deal for USC with his first career field goal, a 31 yard boot to put his team up one and end Tech’s upset hopes.

For Holtz, close isn’t going to cut it, “We keep talking about doing our job and playing team offense, team defense. I think what we can learn from this is when we do our job, we’re pretty good. That’s what I think can be a good learning lesson for us. There’s no moral victory in we were close and we almost won. We almost won at Kansas State a couple of years ago. We almost won at Arkansas a year ago in a 21-20 game. Triple overtime at Kansas State. We’ve been close. There’s no moral victories in close. We’ve got to continue to improve and we’ve got to find a way to finish games like this, especially down the stretch.”

LA Tech will return to Conference USA play Saturday with a visit from South Alabama.
