Griz basketball adds Washington transfer
MISSOULA — The Montana men’s basketball team has added Washington transfer Donaven Dorsey, the Missoulian reported Friday.
Dorsey informed Grizzlies coach Travis DeCuire of his intention to enroll at UM. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Dorsey played two seasons for the Huskies before he was granted his release from UW less than two weeks ago.
Dorsey will be required to sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Dorsey has yet to sign his scholarship papers, rendering Montana’s coaches off limits for comment. Dorsey also declined to comment.
A roster spot for Dorsey opened when redshirt freshman center Bryden Boehning chose to leave the team this summer. Boehning, from Glendive, was expected to play a big role with Montana but a preseason injury slowed his progress and he never regained his spot in the rotation. He played a season-high 19 minutes in a win over Great Falls last year.
Boehning has since transferred to Rocky Mountain College in Billings, where former Montana guard Riley Bradshaw transferred to in April.
