Wilmington Win at Garden Delivers Tournament Berth
Graham Smith scored 20 points, dished out 4 assists and had 3 steals as the Wilmington High boys basketball team secured a berth in the Division 3 state tournament with a 60-51 non-league victory over Shawsheen Tech at the Good Sports Invitational at the TD Garden Saturday morning.
Dan Gracia had a strong all-around game for the Wildcats, checking in with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
Chris Grecco( 8 points, 6 rebounds), Bill McEvoy, Joe Rebeiro and Stephen Anthony (7 points) played well for Wilmington.
Wilmington led 41-20 at halftime. But Shawsheen closed the gap to six points in the third quarter.
Sam Baker led the way on offense for the Rams with 21 points.
Algonquin took charge early, jumping out to a 33-18 halftime lead while topping the Grey Ghosts in a non-league game at the Good Sports Invitational at the TD Garden.
Junior Ben Lawrence had 12 points to lead the way on offense for Westford Academy. Junior Michael Zacharchuck finished with 10 points.
All thirteen Westford players scored at least one point. The Grey Ghosts are 7-7 overall and 2-2 in DCL Large.
Wachusett Regional (11-1) held on to top Westford Academy (9-3) in a matchup of two of the top girls teams in the Commonwealth at the Good Sports Invitational at the TD Garden.
Emily Bramanti paced the Grey Ghost offense with 13 points.
Allie Mulhern tallied 11 points.
Wachusett led 28-21 at halftime. Westford rallied to take a 36-34 lead after three quarters. The score was tied 41-41 with two minutes to play.
