Man in wheelchair killed in Cleveland crash

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 59-year-old man in a wheelchair died Wednesday after he was hit by a car in the city’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood.

The crash happened about 7:45 a.m. on Fulton Avenue and Walton Road, police said.

The man in the wheelchair was stopped at a red light on the car facing west on Walton, police said.

A 2008 Ford Focus stopped in the intersection while waiting to turn left from Fulton onto Walton was hit by a 2018 Jeep Wrangler driving in the opposite direction.

He was driving at the posted 35-mile per hour speed limit, according to police.

The driver of the Focus turned left in front of the Jeep and they crashed, according to police. The impact sent the Jeep spinning counterclockwise until it hit the man in the wheelchair on the curb, according to police.

The man was taken to MetroHealth, where he died.

Cleveland police are still investigating the crash. Police have not said if the driver has been arrested or charged.
