Body found on beach in Manistee
The body of a 27-year-old Mancelona man was found Sunday at the First Street Beach in Manistee, according to the Manistee Police Department.
The Manistee Police Department and Manistee Fire Department found both the body at that location along with hazardous chemicals, according to police.
“As a precaution, the responders were decontaminated and evaluated at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital’s emergency department,” said Manistee Police Chief Tim Kozal in a press release. “One officer was admitted overnight as a precautionary measure and all other indivduals were rleased Sunday evening.”
According to Kozal, members of the Grand Traverse County hazardous materials Team and industrial environmental services experts have assessed all sites and belonging that might have been exposed to the cheimcals and have performed any necessary cleaning or disposal.
Kozal said there is no threat of harm to the public.
Kozal said his department extends their condolences to the family.
The Manistee Police Department, Manistee Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Police Department and the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.
