Mexican Navy Searches For Small Plane Off Southern Coast
MEXICO CITY (AP) _ The Mexican navy searched the seas off the southern state of Quintana Roo today for a small plane that plunged into the ocean with two passengers aboard.
The Notimex news agency reported that the Cessna 152 evidently did not have enough fuel to make it back to shore Tuesday afternoon.
The plane took off from Cayo Huseo, Fla., and was headed for the island of Cozumel, Notimex quoted Martin Hernandez, commander of the airport in the Caribbean resort of Cancun, as saying.
The agency did not give the names of those believed to be aboard.
Petty Officer Mark Mackowiak, a Coast Guard spokesman in Miami, said the plane was registered in Louisiana.
No other details were immediately available.
