WEST PARIS, Maine (AP) — Police say a young man from western Maine is recovering from gunshot wounds after being shot by a state trooper.

Maine State Police say Trooper Jason Wing shot 18-year-old James Reynolds at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday while investigating a report of a suspicious man along the Roy Road in West Paris.

Police say Reynolds was armed with a hunting rifle, but have released few other details about the shooting.

Reynolds is hospitalized at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Wing has been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure following police shootings. The Attorney General's Office is investigating.
