DISTRICT GIRLS ROUNDUP: Valley West Beats Pittston Area In 5A

At Lake-Lehman, Nicole Boutanos scored a game-high 12 points, and Toni Amato added 10 as Valley Weest advanced to the semifinal round of the District 2 Class 5A girls playoffs with a 43-23 win over Pittston Area on Thursday.

Jessica Shaver added seven points for the Spartans.

Jada Sharp led Pittston Area with five points. Nicole Zambetti finished with five points.

Crestwood 55, Wallenpaupack 53

At North Pocono, Riley Magin hit a 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining to seal No. 7 Crestwood’s upset win over No. 2 Wallenpaupack in the Class 5A girls quarterfinals.

Bella Termini scored a game-high 22 points for the Comets, and Helena Jardine added 18. Crestwood advances to face Valley West in the semifinals.

Rachael Tirjan and Hannah Smith each scored 13 points for Wallenpaupack.

At Scranton, Clair Marion scored 13 points to lead No. 1 seed Abington Heights over Coughlin in the opening round of the District 2 Class 5A playoffs.

Erin Albright had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Lady Comets and Rachel McDonald had 11 points.

Ajalaya Butts scored 10 points, and Arianna Brittingham added seven for Coughlin. This was the final game in the history of the Coughlin girls basketball program with the three Wilkes-Barre public schools merging athletic programs in the fall.
