Wife charged with lying to police about missing husband
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have charged the wife of a man whose daughter said she hasn’t seen for more than two years with lying to police.
Georgetown County deputies said 74-year-old Irene Clodfelter told investigators she hadn’t seen her husband, Hubert, since March.
But authorities say a missing person report filed by Hurbert Clodfelter’s daughter said she has not heard from him in two years.
Deputies in Georgetown County charged Irene Clodfelter with obstructing justice.
Authorities told media outlets that additional charges of desecration of human remains and accessory after the fact of murder will likely be field in Horry County.
Hurbert Clodfelter’s daughter told investigators when she asked about her father, his wife said he was traveling or running from the law.
It wasn’t known if Irene Clodfelter had a lawyer.
