Police investigate armed robbery in Cozad
Authorities in Cozad are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Monday morning.
According to a statement issued by Cozad Police Chief Mark Montgomery, the robbery was reported at the Rodeway Inn at 809 Meridian in Cozad around 2:15 a.m. A witness told police that two masked men entered the lobby of the hotel, pointed a handgun at the witness and demanded money.
After being give an undisclosed amount of cash, the men both exited the building and left the area, Montgomery said.
The first suspect was described as a thin, white male approximately 5’5” to 5’9”. The witness said the man may have had blond hair and was wearing a red shirt or coat. The second suspect was described as possibly Hispanic and was wearing a black shirt or coat.
Around 9 a.m., the Gothenburg Police Department recovered a purse at Cubby’s truck stop near the I-80 interchange. Montgomery said the purse was taken during the robbery.
Witnesses reported seeing a possible suspect, described as a small, thin, white male with blond hair, was seen driving a small u-haul truck. The U-haul was last seen headed west on I-80, according to Montgomery.
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Gothenburg Police Department assisted with the investigation. Montgomery asks that anyone with information contact the Cozad Police Department at 308-784-2366.
