College Roundup: Stags bang out 10 hits but lose

NIAGARA 13, FAIRFIELD 8: At Fairfield, the Stags tallied 10 hits by seven different players and drew 13 walks, but could not take full advantage by stranding 13 runners in this MAAC loss.

Jack Gethings had two hits, three runs and an RBI and Drew Blake drove in a run on a double and scored for Fairfield (7-14, 1-3).

WAGNER 9, SACRED HEART 4: At New Britain, Elijah Brown had two hits and a run and Dan Schock had a hit and drove in two for the Pioneers (5-14, 1-3) in this loss in Northeast Conference action.

UCONN 6, CCSU 1: At Storrs, Michael Woodworth went 3-for-3 with one RBI for the Huskies in this non-conference win.

Chris Winkel had two hits, including a double, a run and an RBI and Zac Susi hit a solo home run for UConn (14-9).

Mitch Guilmette and Jeremy Sagun each had two hits for the Blue Devils (7-10).


SACRED HEART 6-1, CCSU 9-0: At New Britain, Addison Landry scored on Lindsey Spitz’s fielder’s choice for the only run in Game 2 for the Pioneers.

Emily Orosco allowed five hits, one walk and struck out 11 in the complete game win for Sacred Heart.

Caroline Kruger had three hits, two RBIs and a run and Hailey Desrosiers had two hits and scored twice for the Pioneers in Game 1.


PENN. STATE 3, SACRED HEART 1: At Fairfield, Emerson Waumans paced the Pioneers with 18 kills in this EIVA loss. Penn State (12-8) won by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-21.

Rob Chatterton had four blocks and Joshua Ayzenberg recorded seven digs for Sacred Heart (5-12).
