Lois “Ann” Ashman, 81, of Kankakee and Cullom, passed away on Friday (Aug. 17, 2018) in Gilman, at Gilman Healthcare Center. She preferred to be called Ann.

She was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Cullom, the daughter of Landon and Verna (Winters) Tinker. Ann married Robert Ashman on May 19, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cullom.

Ann was a member of the American Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served in every capacity possible. Quilting was her passion after retirement, and she and her “Ladies” made more than 100 quilts per year. She also enjoyed reading and was a member of the church book club. Ann was an adult reading tutor and volunteered at the Kankakee YWCA. Another passion of hers was music. As a young adult, she was a member of the Mrs. and her Misses. She played piano and trumpet and sang with them at many events.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and school functions. Every year she would host “Grandma Week” with all six grandchildren.

Ann loved to travel across the United States and Europe, including a trip to Paris that she and Bob won at a church auction. She also liked to draw and was avid at cross-stitching. Ann enjoyed working outdoors with her flowers. She loved the Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs and knew all of the players and their stats.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Ashman, of Kankakee and now Ashkum; one daughter, Marsha (Rodger) Alvis, of Flint, Mich.; two sons, Dave (Judy) Ashman, of Chebanse, and Derek (Peggy) Ashman, of Kankakee; grandchildren, Kirstin and Bryton Ashman, Matthew and Briana Alvis, Amanda (Matthew) Meyer and Shannon (Andrew) Kempen; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Andie Zeedyk, Rowan and Trevor Meyer and Braden, Bella and Ben Kempen.
