NIU’s Gabel Pool closed for spring semester
DeKALB – Poor filtration, tiles falling off, and rusty pipes leaking into the water were some of the reasons Northern Illinois University’s Gabel Pool was closed for the 2018 spring semester.
Since repair costs exceed what recreational service could generate, it is unclear when the pool will reopen.
In response, the university’s Recreation and Wellness Department is working with the Kinesiology and Physical Education Department for access to the six-lane pool in Anderson Hall for open pool hours.
NIU spokesman Joe King said that Anderson Pool is used for Kinesiology and Physical Education Department classes, for limited campus recreation classes and a limited amount of open swim hours for faculty, staff and the community.
